If you're interested in developing multimedia skills and telling stories, then this is the academy for you! The Journalism Academy is open to all students who want to produce and write the news, and learn how tell stories through various forms of media. Using cutting-edge technology, you will gain real world skills in print, audio and video production. In addition, you will learn how to conduct interviews, report from the field, and produce engaging articles, websites, videos, and radio pieces.
Skills learned include:
- Shooting with professional video and still cameras
- Editing video and sound with Final Cut Pro
- Creating websites and podcasts
- Adobe Photoshop
You will also have the opportunity to visit various news organizations to meet print, digital, and broadcast journalists. In addition, you will have the chance to attend the annual NYC High School Journalism Conference to showcase your work and gain skills through hands-on workshops with professors and journalists. In the final year of the program, you will produce a news broadcast which will be displayed on television screens throughout the school. There will also be an end-of-the-year school film festival to showcase your video work.
